Microsoft SharePoint History
SharePoint has been around since 2001 and has evolved over the last 14 years.
It’s actually the fastest Microsoft application in history to reach $1bn in annual revenue licences.
You can be forgiven for not knowing about it as the majority of users are in large enterprises.
In fact, until it recently became available as part of Microsoft Office 365, the licencing costs effectively prohibited smaller businesses from taking advantage of its versatility.
It’s certainly worth noting that the number of SharePoint users is growing by 20,000 per day.
Microsoft SharePoint - a complete management system
Without going into the finer details – which are probably too technical to worry about – SharePoint now provides a comprehensive variety of features that make it a complete information management platform, capable of delivering solutions for business intelligence, collaboration, communication, composite applications (mash-ups), content management, portals, process automation, social networks and more.
