Technical Consultant - North East

Job Purpose 

The role of the technical consultant is to plan, execute and complete projects according to agreed deadlines and within budget.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pre-installation liaison with clients / salesperson to agree objectives
  • Prepare technical plans and execution of plan to completion with customer acceptance
  • Hardware and software installations based primarily around Microsoft / Hewlett Packard technologies at customer sites around the country
  • To ensure that at least 75% of their time is on chargeable work
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies
  • Document all project work to a high standard
  • Assist with post-installation issues where required

Collaboration and Relationships

  • With sales / technical specialists and clients to agree objectives for projects
  • With project coordinators to help identify any issues that may impact project delivery


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Your qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent
  • MCSE, CCNA, VCP or equivalent qualification would be desirable

Your skills & knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of current IT technologies;
    • Microsoft Exchange 2010 to 2013
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2
    • Microsoft Office 365
    • Virtualisation; Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware
    • LAN / WAN / SAN technologies
    • Firewalls / switching / routing
    • Sophos Endpoint Security Suite
    • Symantec Backup Exec
  • Strong inter-personal skills and have the ability to communicate difficult and sensitive information
  • Ability to manage a number of on-going projects at any given time and be able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
  • Ability to look for ways to improve and promote quality
  • Able to work well as part of a team and individually
  • Must have a clean or near clean driving licence

  • Considerable experience in a similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of current IT technologies
