Calderdale Council serves the towns of Brighouse, Elland, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden.

The objectives

As a Microsoft Enterprise customer, Calderdale Council wanted to take advantage of the tight integration between Microsoft SharePoint, Active Directory and other core Microsoft products. Having worked with SharePoint for over a year with no visible benefit, Calderdale turned to TSG to help move their SharePoint environment forward.

The Solution

TSG SharePoint experts recommended the intranet site as the first priority as a highly visible, low risk area where a lot of functionality could be exploited. Within 6 months, the intranet site was launched and benefits became ‘very tangible’. The Council was able to benefit immediately from single sign-on, improving efficiency across the Council.

With up to 3,000 users logging onto the site and a growing information store, ease of use and the ability to quickly and easily search through a large amount of information was of vital importance. SharePoint’s intelligent search was recognised as a valuable time savings tool for staff utilising the site.

The benefits of SharePoint to Calderdale Council

They are finding it much easier to upload and maintain site content via the Microsoft SharePoint intranet than the previous (Oracle Web based) Intranet. Calderdale is also using SharePoint as a ‘front end’ for other applications, including a number of bespoke applications. This has eliminated the need for occasional users to be trained on multiple applications, log into multiple systems, remember various passwords and spend time trying to navigate through unfamiliar systems. Managers are now able to approve purchase orders directly through the intranet site.

TSG worked alongside Calderdale’s internal team providing knowledge transfer, ideas validation, quality assurance and technical project solving, allowing Calderdale to maximise value from both TSG and their own, highly skilled team.
