Planning for the unthinkable

Only 66% of large* organisations have a business continuity plan (BCP), with this figure dropping to only 33% for their smaller counterparts. – Chartered Institute for IT

The recent spate of Ransomware attacks that have been hitting the headlines and taking down businesses in equal measure this year have catapulted business continuity plans into the spotlight.

It’s been reported that one in five businesses suffer a major disruption every year (Chartered Institute for IT). This disruption or ‘disaster’ could be a fire, flood, mass data deletion via human error, cyber-attacks… the list goes on.

It’s clear that a robust business continuity plan should be high on the agenda of every organisation, big or small. Alarming statistics recorded by The London Chamber of Commerce demonstrate the lack of a backup plan for businesses when disaster strikes:

• 90% of businesses that lose data from a disaster are forced to close within two years of the disaster.

• 80% of businesses without a well-structured recovery plan are forced to close within 12 months of a flood or fire.

• 43% of companies experiencing disasters never recover.

• 50% of companies experiencing a computer outage will be forced to shut within five years.

These statistics beg the question: are businesses heavily reliant on the hope they won’t be affected? Or perhaps they are aware they need a plan, but don’t have the time nor resource to put something in place.

TSG is helping companies across the UK with their business continuity strategy. We are holding a webinar for organisations looking to find out about disaster recovery, backup and Datto’s innovative hybrid solution. The webinar covers a range of topics around disaster recovery including Ransomware, the difference between DR and backup and a case study example of how Datto helped TSG customer Chadwick Lawrence.
