Ransomware: What you need to know (infographic)

Ransomware has been in the headlines for most of 2016, with business after business hit by the malicious malware that encrypts files and demands a ransom for their decryption. While it has existed for a long time, Ransomware has returned with a vengeance in 2016. Hackers are becoming cleverer and more targeted, and more businesses than ever are paying the ransom.

Once upon a time, hackers would distribute Ransomware through a ‘spray and pray’ attack; sending basic emails (the most common vehicle for Ransomware distribution) to anyone and everyone. While these emails still exist, hackers are now favouring ‘spoofing’ – impersonating someone you know like a co-worker, or an authoritative figure like your CEO to gain your trust.

With a 3,500% increase in Ransomware attacks in 2016 alone, and the hackers showing no signs of slowing down, you need to be aware of this threat to protect yourself and the security of your business.
