What is your role here at TSG & how do you support our customers?

I’m a Cyber Security Specialist here at TSG. I specialise in Cyber Security, Creative Media, Law Enforcement and Education. Email and Teams calls are my main ways of communicating with customers, mostly due to their location, although I do visit them in person on occasion, which I really enjoy. My main responsibility is to provide information and guidance around cyber security and the support we provide but I also deliver some of our cyber security services so I can often speak with a customer at different stages in their journey depending on their requirements.

Tell us a little bit about your professional work history and the most important things you learned about building strong partnerships with customers

My fascination with information technology began at University when I had the opportunity to study HTML code as part of my degree in film and media. The internet was just taking off and HTML was a hot topic! I went on to work as an editor and broadcaster in TV, Film and Radio for some years before deciding to take a couple of months out to go travelling. When I returned I acquired various roles in education and law enforcement, all of which focused on building and maintaining positive and productive customer relationships.

The most important things I learned about building strong partnerships with customers is to, first and foremost, do your research. Get to know the customer, what motivates them and makes them tick. Also, ‘read the room’, get a sense of how they would like to communicate and mirror that. Some customers like to keep it all about business which is absolutely fine, but others might respond better to a more relaxed approach, just make sure you’re speaking their language. Finally, don’t be afraid to admit mistakes; taking ownership of a mishap and, most importantly, providing a resolution, can often gain respect and trust from your customers.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re logged off from work?

I like to stay active – so going to the gym, running, swimming, travelling! Spending time with family and friends is also important to me. I also love to relax in front of the TV or with a book. I’m also planning to learn to snowboard later this year!
