Tell us a little bit about your professional work history and how you came to TSG

I started off as a trainee computer programmer for a manufacturing company in 1990, and eventually worked my way up to senior roles in UK manufacturing businesses, typically in Operations Director/Customer Service Director roles.

In 2004, I joined Technology Services Group (TSG) as Customer Services Director, quite soon after TSG had made its first couple of acquisitions. I left in 2010, but remained connected to the business and have returned latterly as Chief Commercial Officer in 2021. I even had a spell as an interim Director for TSG in the gap, so I’ve always stayed close to the business and the team. I’m now the Chief Customer Officer.

What is the most interesting part about your role at TSG?

The levels of expertise, both technical and in terms of professional skills is amazing. I am always conscious that each team member knows considerably more about their specific area of expertise than I ever will; that means the challenge isn’t about traditional management practices so much as promoting teamwork aimed at designing and delivering the solutions our clients need.

Away from work, what do you enjoy doing?

I (and all of my family) are keen supporters of St. Mirren FC, and I go to most games when work commitments permit. It is a relatively small club, but I’ve been lucky enough to see them win both the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup in my lifetime. I also enjoy music, walking in the hills, curry, and red wine!
