Meltdown Patch updates

Keeping our customers informed of developments

Updates and Announcements

Page last updated: Tuesday 23rd January, 17:00

The ‘meltdown’ patch released from Microsoft on Monday 8th January 2018 has caused some performance issues for a small number of TSG customers.

We have seen massive performance hits (especially on SQL servers) after the latest patch was applied, therefore we are still not applying it to our customers' networks. We've learnt that it stops shadowing of sessions within Remote Desktop Services, preventing some organisations working in the manner they require.

HP, VMware, Dell and Intel have withdrawn Bios updates and advised customers to revert to an older version if they have applied a “Spectre” patch. New releases are planned but no release date has been provided as yet.

Microsoft will be re-releasing the next patch on Tuesday 30th January.

Unfortunately Windows 8, Server 2008 and Server 2003 will not be receiving a patch and should be replaced with a supported Operating System as soon as possible.

You can read more information on the Meltdown patch via the following link. This blog is from an external source and gives a good overview of the patch:
