Established in 1926, H. Malone & Sons is an industry-leading mechanical and electrical contractor based in the north east of England. For over 90 years, the business has delivered a range of M&E services, including the production of detailed cost plans, professional design co-ordination and high-quality installations through to commissioning, handover, aftercare and maintenance, to clients in both the private and public sectors.
A brand-new project had been entrusted to H. Malone & Sons, who was working on behalf of social housing provider, Byker Community Trust.
H. Malone & Sons knew this was the perfect opportunity to take full advantage of their existing Office 365 package, leveraging some its innovative capabilities beyond email and basic applications such as Word and Excel.
The M&E contractor met with TSG to discuss the project, the basis of which was to audit approximately 2,000 Byker Community Trust properties located within the Byker Wall area of Newcastle Upon Tyne, with the purpose of determining if the water systems and heating controls of the selected homes needed to be replaced or improved.
In order to streamline this mammoth task, H. Malone & Sons required a cutting-edge IT solution with the functionality to track and manage bookings for site visits, as well as record approval and installation requests prompted by audit responses.
“TSG's SharePoint and Power BI teams guided us through the process with internal workshops and fact-finding meetings to home in on the best design and feel of a bespoke application to capture all the relevant data we need to complete this project. The final app is exactly what we were looking for and is now used extensively by our site operatives to ease their daily workload and captures securely the relevant information required and is all stored in ‘the cloud’. We are almost at the point of achieving the holy grail of a ‘paperless office’ on this project.”

A joint workshop was the first step required to collate H. Malone's key requirements, which would be used by the TSG team to produce a suitable, bespoke design for the IT solution.
In this case, the design combined several elements from the Office 365 application stack, including Power BI dashboards to visualise audit stage, progress and completions along with cost analysis, secure and compliant SharePoint lists to store data for all elements of the solution, Flow workflows to promote the movement of data between the property audit stages, and to notify users of items requiring their attention, and a user-friendly PowerApps interface required to capture the vital audit information.
