TSG joins the fight for every heartbeat
IT experts Technology Services Group (TSG) has found a place at the heart of the community today by launching their partnership with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in the fight against heart disease.
Following an internal selection process TSG has chosen to support the BHF and the life-saving research it funds as their National Charity for the next three years.
With over 400 staff in their offices across the UK TSG hope to raise as much as possible for the charity whilst also educating colleagues about the steps taken to prolong their own lives and how to save others.
David Stonehouse, TSG’s Chief Executive said “We’re delighted to help such a great cause in the British Heart Foundation as well as use their resources to help provide our staff with a healthy and great place to work.”
TSG has invested in a set of CPR training kits which will be circulated in each of their offices amongst colleagues and their families. With its accompanying DVD no instructors are necessary as the staff will teach themselves, with the aid of an inflatable manikin, how to successfully perform CPR.
Also present at the launch was Dr Helen Phillips a researcher from the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University. Dr Phillips said “The money that TSG raise for the BHF will assist our research into the causes of congenital heart defects and what we can do to prevent it. Whilst people’s lifestyles and behaviours can affect their health there are still many non-environmental factors that cause heart disease to develop”
Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and the BHF pioneers research to transform the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. This work is central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease.
TSG staff will be encouraged to get behind BHF’s fundraising campaigns such as “Wear It. Beat it.” and the autumn stock donation campaign “Bag it. Beat it”. Each office will also be developing a calendar of events to raise funds.
Dan McNally, BHF Fundraising Manager said: “We were thrilled when we heard that TSG staff had voted us their chosen charity. Heart disease has touched us all in some way, so by raising money and awareness, their support will be vital to helping us beat heart disease.”
The launch follows earlier charitable news that TSG are supporting this year’s Westfield Health British Transplant Games which will be held in NewcastleGateshead in the summer. The British Heart Foundation are the main charity partner for these games.
