Why UK businesses are choosing hosted telephony
As of 2025, Openreach (BT) will be retiring the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), this change will affect hundreds of thousands of UK companies. UK businesses will need to move to IP phone lines, and this can be achieved by adopting hosted telephony.
Hosted telephony solutions provide a low cost of adoption with minimal or no CapEx, and the Gamma Horizon system is ideal for business continuity as each user has a single number which can be accessed on any device, from any location.
What is hosted telephony?
Hosted telephony is a cloud-based telephone system that doesn’t rely on ISDN, it’s a modern, easy-to-use system that uses an internet connection. Traditional telephone systems can become too costly and can only offer modern businesses so much. Hosted telephony systems such as Gamma Horizon provide organisations with a cost effective, futureproof solution that is disaster recovery-ready.
How it works
Head office and branch office locations connect to the secure Gamma Horizon cloud platform via an assured connection service. This connection guarantees call quality and performance (demonstrated below in green).
Roaming users connect using softphone clients over whatever bandwidth they have available at their location (shown below in yellow).
The calls are managed and controlled centrally by the Gamma hosted platform. Inbound and outbound calls are passed to the normal voice Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) (shown in grey) for all communication outside the organisation.
• Simple configuration
• Flexible roaming options
• Removes need for on premise PBX
• Removes need for ISDN lines
• Low/no call cost options
