World Transplant Games 2019

17 - 24 August 2019

TSG is proud to support the WTG NewcastleGateshead 2019

The Games aim to raise public awareness and acceptance of organ donation, increase donor registrations and encourage donors to share their wishes.

The Games come to the North East

In August 2019, NewcastleGateshead will warmly welcome approximately 3000 participants from around 70 countries, aged from 4 to 80+, for the World Transplant Games 2019. All participants will be recipients of organ and/or tissue transplants or will be living donors or donor families.

The Games will take place from 17th-24th August, across world-class sporting venues including: Close House Golf Resort, Gateshead International Stadium and the Northumberland Club.

TSG will be supporting the WTG in the lead up to the event by taking part in fundraising activities and members of Team TSG will be taking Volunteer Days to help out during the week of events.

It’s so important for us as an organisation to support and give back to charity on a regional and national scale. We are very lucky to have such supportive and passionate staff at TSG who support charity days and different sporting events, with great enthusiasm, in order to raise much needed funds.

- David Stonehouse, TSG's Chief Executive

The facts

  •  Around 6,000 people across the UK are waiting for an organ transplant

  • Over 3,000 people in the UK have received a transplant in the last 12 months

  • Three people a day die in need of a transplant due to a shortage of people being willing to donate organs

  • Anyone, at any age, can sign up to become an organ donor

First WTG Fun Day at TSG

On Friday 8th March, we held our first WTG Fun Day in TSG's Head Office. We had a fantastic day and raised a total of £340, smashing our initial £250 target!

Team TSG enjoyed games including a 'match the colleague with the baby photo' quiz, feasted on a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet donated by members of staff and took part in a raffle.

Our founder Graham Wylie will be leading local organisation efforts as Chair of the WTG 2019 Local Organising Committee.

"Our ambition is to make these the best Games yet! We will be staging an exciting international sporting event at world-class venues and showcasing the best that the region has to offer. The NewcastleGateshead Games will shine a spotlight on transplant surgery, organ donation and the need for everyone to share their wishes with family."

- Graham Wylie CBE, TSG Founder and Chair of the WTG 2019 Local Organising Committee
