Tom Hannah Agencies has been making sweets since 1963, and manufactures well-known treats including Skittle Discs, Brain Lickers, Jazzles and Fizz Wiz. The company ships internationally and produces 10 million white mice per week!

The challenge

Tom Munro, Joint Managing Director, is continually looking at how the company’s use of technology can make it more efficient and productive; in particular, technologies which would eliminate time-consuming, manual processes.

He turned to trusted technology partner TSG, also a key partner of Sage, to work on a business strategy which would see the organisation increase its productivity through solution-driven implementations.

In particular, Tom Hannah Agencies had requirements around traceability; as a sweets manufacturer, the organisation needed the ability to trace each ingredient in its products from crop to customer.

The solution

To address Tom Hannah Agencies’ requirement around traceability, TSG’s Sage specialists implemented Sage 200’s Bill of Materials (BoM) module, meaning the organisation now has a fully automated system which traces all ingredients and products the manufacturer produces and imports.

The BoM module also allowed the company to move away from tracking stock quantities in an Excel spreadsheet, allowing Tom to see stock levels in real-time within the company’s Sage 200 solution.

Tom Hannah Agencies utilises TSG’s proactive support days, where a Sage-qualified expert from TSG will visit the site to review its use of technology and identify areas in which the business could improve.

Additionally, the organisation recognised the critical importance of minimising downtime, which could halt its entire production line.
