TSG Scotland do their bit to educate the next generation!
Fifteen computing students from Glasgow Clyde College have spent an afternoon with national IT experts Technology Services Group (TSG) learning first-hand about the industry.
The students, who are working towards an HND in Computing Technical Support, heard from senior executives at TSG’s Hamilton office and saw operatives in the support room taking calls from the group’s 4,000 business customers across the UK.
Helen Fee, Senior Computing Lecturer at Glasgow Clyde College said “It’s hugely valuable for our students to have the chance to see the theory and processes they are learning about put into practice in real life.
“Seeing the IT support environment in action demonstrates how the modules we are exploring such as incident reporting and recording, prioritisation and escalation are implemented in technical support. As well as the technical knowledge required for IT support the students have seen how important personal qualities such as people skills are useful when handling key customers.”
Alan Turnbull, Managing Director for TSG Scotland added “We’re delighted to be part of informing the next generation of IT professionals which is of course hugely important. Not only will today have helped these students see how a modern-day IT company operates but it also shows the sorts of opportunity available for them on their doorstep here in Hamilton.
“It was great to see some genuine enthusiasm from everyone who were asking plenty of really good questions to our team and making the most of the occasion”.
In addition to introducing the students to the traditional approach to IT Support TSG were also able to showcase their self-developed TSG SystemCare. The product, made available to TSG’s customers, is an advanced IT support technology that runs seamlessly in the background protecting businesses against catastrophic system failure and data loss.
Helen Fee continued, “We’re hugely grateful to TSG for giving our students such a valuable opportunity. Many of our students will progress to University, and others will go straight in to employment, so to have the chance to grill industry experts is something we’re thrilled to be able to offer those on the course”.
